for collaborative performance
The act of covering one’s ears contradicts from the act of enjoying a musical experience. It is an act to protect one’s self from loud or uncomfortable noise and overwhelming flow of information, and reclaiming one’s self.
Acoustically, a covered ear creates a new sonar experience for the listener, which I would like to explore the imminent possibilities of sweet and abstract noise with this effect.
Over the past months, I have been collaborating with artists and composers in New York and Tokyo for the improvisatory performance series Cymbals, which questions the reality of contemporary music where many composers write with his one hand and covers his ear with another.
