Program Note

  I believe that life offers no safety net nor a bungee cord. Unimaginable and devastating events never wait for us to be prepared. Furthermore, while we often hope that such difficulties will eventually reveal meaning within the larger arc of our lives, this is not always the case.

  A common response coded in us is the compulsion to revisit the original source of trauma. Through the act of re-enacting the memory, whether consciously or unconsciously, we actively construct meaning for it – a narrative, a link between the dots, or whatever one might choose to call it.

  “All events in our lives have meaning”. Perhaps it is true, or perhaps not. But one thing for certain: it is a blessing for anyone to discover the “cheat-code” that allows us to construct meaning from each of life’s events.
