composer | sound artist
Chatori Shimizu creates experimental and interdisciplinary sound works that explore the liberation of time and space, articulated through concert music, site-specific music, and kinetically enhanced music. His practice spans a wide range of media, including instrumental composition, programming, electronic circuitry, videography, installation, improvisation, and movement-based art. At the core of his methodology is the score - a mix of musical notation, text, and graphic instructions - that invites performers to reimagine and reinterpret each work through a balance of precision and freedom.
Deeply committed to collaborative creation, Shimizu works across cultural and disciplinary boundaries. As a journey-based artist, he has lived and worked in Tokyo, New York City, Dresden, and is currently based in Taipei, fostering artistic exchange and intercultural research.
